By Doggie 🐶 – Snack Strategist, Pastry Protector, Delayer of the Inevitable
I told everyone the croissant was for later.
“I’m saving it,” I said.
“It’s my emergency ration.”
“For morale. For if things go terribly wrong.”
Pandy raised an eyebrow.
Mini Blue started making a croissant countdown chart.
I tucked it gently in my hoodie pouch, whispered “not yet,” and carried on.
In theory: Saving snacks = responsible.
In practice: Constant awareness of croissant = emotional chaos.
I brought it:
To lunch (didn’t eat it)
To nap time (definitely snuggled it)
To the window (for air and ambiance)
I kept saying:
“Not now. But soon.”
“Maybe after a tough day.”
“Maybe if Pandy says something mean like 'fiber.'”
It was a normal afternoon.
Quiet. Calm. Nothing wrong.
And then… I looked at it.
So round. So flaky. So emotionally available.
I said, “Just a nibble.”
I woke up 6 minutes later in a pile of crumbs, holding the last buttery corner like a plushie life raft.
“You’re allowed to enjoy good things now, Doggie.”
Rude. Correct. Hurtful.
Maybe I wasn’t saving the croissant.
Maybe the croissant was saving me.
But next time? I’ll eat it when it’s warm.
Because “later” might just be another word for “missed opportunity… with jam.”
Croissantfully yours,
Doggie 🐶✨

P.S. Mini Blue made me a “Treat Now” sign. I taped it to the toaster.
