By Doggie 🐶 – Overthinker-in-Chief, Listener of Subtle Sounds, Seeker of Meaning
It was a small sound.
Tiny, even. Just a simple:
“Hmm.”
But the way Pandy said it?
I’m still thinking about it.
We were sitting quietly.
I was explaining my new plan to replace all our spoons with edible ones.
Pandy sipped his tea, looked at me, and said…
“Hmm.”
Was it a “hmm” of curiosity?
Was it judgment wrapped in politeness?
Was it soft love in sound form?
Was it… disappointment?
I spiraled.
I flopped gently onto the couch.
Mini Blue patted my head and said nothing (as usual, but it felt supportive).
Pandy’s “Hmm” contained:
37% ancient plushie wisdom
22% calm resistance
18% subtle “please don’t do this” energy
15% fondness
8% lemon tea
That’s powerful for a noise that’s technically not even a word.
That “Hmm”?
It meant something—but it also meant everything.
It meant Pandy was listening.
It meant he cared enough not to say no, but also not to say yes.
It meant: “I’m not stopping you, but I’m watching this unfold with quiet concern and infinite affection.”
And honestly?
That kind of gentle presence is the loudest love of all.
Not every word needs to be big.
Sometimes, a quiet “hmm” from someone who knows you is the whole hug.
So if your best friend makes a tiny sound?
Listen.
Feel it.
Let it gently unravel your heart in the best way.
Endlessly hmm’d,
Doggie 🐶✨

P.S. I still made one edible spoon. Pandy said “hmm” again. I cried a little. Then we had soup.
