It started with a question:
Does the fridge light turn off when the door closes?
Pandy said, “Of course.”
Mini Blue blinked twice and whispered (nonverbally), “Or does it…?”
I knew what I had to do.
I had to go in.
I gathered supplies:
One flashlight (for backup light drama)
A snack for bravery (cheese cube, emotionally necessary)
A notebook (later eaten by accident)
I waited until Pandy was making tea, then snuck into the fridge.
Very quietly. Very coldly. Like a stealthy popsicle.
Mini Blue was lookout. They got distracted by a water bottle.
The light was still on.
At first, I was comforted.
It glowed softly on a yogurt cup. A container labeled “Definitely Not Raisins.” A single, noble grape.
But then I heard… a hum.
It wasn’t the usual fridge hum.
It was a mysterious hum.
Like the fridge was whispering secrets only vegetables could hear.
I held still. I flopped gently behind the hummus.
Then—the light flickered.
The Fridge Light is Sentient.
It knows when you’re watching. It waits. It judges. It has opinions on your snacking habits.
Time Moves Differently Inside.
I was in there for two minutes. Or three days. Pandy says it was 45 seconds.
Fridge Gremlins Exist.
They rearrange leftovers and hide the good cheese behind mystery jars. I have no proof, but I feel it.
I knocked gently from the inside. Pandy opened the door.
“Why are you holding a grape like it’s sacred?” he asked.
“Because it is,” I whispered, “and also because it rolled away from the light and told me things.”
Mini Blue agreed. Pandy walked away.
Maybe the fridge light turns off.
Maybe it doesn’t.
Maybe it becomes something else when no one’s looking.
Either way, the snacks in there deserve your respect.
They’ve seen things.
Stay curious, stay cold-snack ready,

P.S. I licked a popsicle box and now we’re emotionally bonded.
