By Doggie 🐶 – Chief Snack Inspector
I stumbled into a great debate the other day—one that has torn households, picnics, and grocery aisles apart:
Is it a cheese board?
Or a cheeseboard?
At first glance, you might think, “Doggie, why are you worrying about spelling when there’s gouda to be eaten?” But friends, words matter. Words change vibes. And vibes change snacks.
“Cheese board” sounds friendly. Approachable. Like a buddy who invites you over and says, “Hey, I just threw this together, help yourself!”
On this board you’ll find cheddar cubes, a wheel of brie with one slice already missing, and maybe some crackers that came out of a cardboard box. Someone probably brought grapes. Someone else maybe forgot the knife, so we’re using a butter spreader. It’s casual, it’s communal, it’s crumbly.
“Cheeseboard” is fancy. Regal. Like it belongs in a glossy food magazine where everyone uses words like artisanal and velvety mouthfeel.
Here we’re talking triple-cream Camembert. A goat cheese log rolled in herbs. Crackers that sound like they studied abroad—multigrain crispbread with sea salt harvested under a full moon. Tiny forks for spearing things. A ramekin of fig jam because apparently that’s mandatory.
If you ask for a “cheeseboard,” someone will whisper about terroir.
At this point in my investigation, I turned to Pandy, who was calmly stirring tea.
“Doggie,” he said, “the spelling doesn’t change the snacks.”
But I disagree! If I’m presented with a cheese board, I know it’s a cozy, paws-on experience. A cheeseboard? That’s a velvet-rope situation. I might need reservations.
Pandy just sipped his tea and let me spiral. Typical.
Meanwhile, Mini Blue plopped right onto the board like a decorative garnish, turned a neutral shade, and blinked at me as if to say:
“Friend, just eat the cheese.”
A wise octopus indeed.
After careful consideration, many nibbles, and some cheddar-related crumbs in my fur, I’ve decided:
Whether you call it a cheese board or a cheeseboard…
more cheese = more better.
Case closed. 🧀✨
