Hello, friends. Doggie here.
I have been a little behind on my blog. There were mountains to look at, cheese to investigate, and several occasions when my paws were occupied with food. Pandy says this is why people take notes. I thought that was what the photographs were for.
Our Swiss adventure brought us to Pully, where the lake stretched out in front of us and the mountains sat quietly on the other side. Pandy and I stood by the water for a while. I declared the dock an excellent place for snack contemplation. Pandy kept an eye on how close I was getting to the edge.
Mini Blue took in the view without saying anything, which is his usual way of saying quite a lot.
In Montreux, we posed in front of Freddie Mercury’s statue. His arm was raised high, and I liked the confidence of it. Sometimes you arrive somewhere beautiful and need to announce that you are there. Sometimes you are a small plush dog and need a little help getting into the photograph. Both are perfectly respectable.
Then there was Gruyère.
I would like a moment to collect myself.
We had fondue, raclette, and meringues with Gruyère double cream and ice cream. There was cheese you dipped things into and cheese that melted over things. I appreciated being offered more than one way to participate.
The meringues were crisp and light, and the cream was wonderfully rich. Together, they made a very convincing argument for staying at the table a little longer.
Pandy was excellent company throughout this important research. It is easier to appreciate a meal when your best friend is beside you, even if he occasionally notices that you are already considering the next bite.
In Geneva, the three of us watched the Jet d’Eau rise into the evening sky. For once, I did not have much to add. There was the fountain, the light on the water, and my friends close by. I wanted to remember how it felt to stand there together.
Our last dinner in Geneva was at Fabbrica Pasta. After all that cheese, you might think I would have had enough to eat for one adventure. Fortunately, pasta is very persuasive.
I came away from Switzerland with photographs of places I had only just met and memories that already felt familiar. The lake in Pully. Pandy beside me. Mini Blue watching the fountain. A table we were reluctant to leave.
If you visit, leave time to sit and look at the water.
And room for the double cream.
